Privacy Policy

Draft — needs legal review before launch. Written in plain English by the people who build Meetle, and accurate to how the product works today.

Last updated , for voice and video and for Keep in touch.

The short version: we collect as little as we can, we never save your chats with strangers, and we don't sell anything about you to anyone.

The short version

  • This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads no third-party scripts. Fonts are hosted here.
  • The waitlist stores your email address so we can tell you when Meetle opens.
  • In the app, strangers see your username. Nothing else, unless you both choose voice or video.
  • Chats with strangers are never stored, and voice and video are never recorded. Messages with people you kept are stored.
  • We don't sell or share your data. Email hello@meetle.org to delete it.

This website (meetle.org)

The site is static files. It doesn't set cookies, doesn't use analytics, and doesn't load anything from third parties. Our host, GitHub Pages, may keep standard server logs (IP address, page requested, time) for its own operations; see GitHub's privacy statement for that.

The waitlist

When you join the waitlist we store your email address, the page you signed up from, and the time you joined, with the provider we use to hold the list. We use it for one thing: telling you when you can start talking, plus the occasional update about Meetle. We don't sell it, rent it or share it. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or you can reply "remove me". To have your email deleted from the list entirely, write to hello@meetle.org.

The app: what we store

  • Your account. You sign in with Google, Discord or GitHub through our sign-in provider, Supabase. We receive the email address on that account, an id from the provider and when you signed up, plus whatever the provider shares by default: usually your name and a link to your profile picture. We never show or use those, we don't ask for your birthday or location, and we don't post on your behalf.
  • Your username. The 3–20 character name you chose. It's the only thing other users see, unless you both choose voice or video.
  • The people you kept. Who you've tapped Keep in touch for, and who you kept each other with. Tapping Keep in touch is stored the moment you tap it — that's how you can both find out later — but it is never shown to the other person unless it becomes mutual. Removing someone is stored too.
  • Conversations with people you kept. Messages between you and someone you kept each other with are saved so both of you can read them later. No other user can read them. There is no way to edit or delete a sent message from inside the app yet; if you need messages removed, email us.
  • Reports. When you report someone we record when, the chat it happened in, and the reason if you gave one. Because stranger chats aren't stored, a report never includes the conversation.
  • Technical logs. Short-lived server logs (connection times, errors, IP addresses) that we use to keep Meetle running and to stop abuse such as flooding.

The app: what we never store

  • Chats with strangers. Messages between two people who haven't kept each other are relayed live through our server's memory and never written anywhere. When the chat ends, they're gone. This is a design decision, not a temporary one.
  • Recordings of voice or video. Meetle asks for your microphone or camera only when you choose voice or video, never before, and sends nothing until you and the other person have both chosen it. What they carry goes to that person and is never recorded or stored. Video starts covered for both of you.
  • Your location, contacts, or anything else on your device.
  • A profile. There's no bio, no photos, and no browsing other people's accounts.

What strangers can see

Your username. If you both choose voice, they hear you; if you both choose video, they see a covered picture until you both tap to uncover it. Never your name, email, sign-in provider, photo or account.

Who we share it with

Nobody, apart from the services that store it for us: Supabase for accounts, the people you kept and your saved conversations; GitHub Pages for this site; and the waitlist provider named above. We don't sell data, we don't share it with advertisers, and we'd only hand it over if the law required it.

How long we keep it

Waitlist email: until you unsubscribe, or until Meetle opens and the list is no longer needed. Account, username, the people you kept and your saved conversations: until you delete your account. Reports: as long as needed to act on them. Technical logs: a short, fixed period.

Deleting your data

Email hello@meetle.org from the address on your account and we'll delete your account (with everything your sign-in provider shared), username, the list of people you kept and your saved conversations, and remove you from the waitlist. We'll confirm when it's done.
