Safety on Meetle

Meetle is built so you never have to be brave to use it. Everyone signs in with a real account, it's 18+ only, strangers see only your username, nobody sees your face unless you both uncover it, nothing you say to a stranger is saved, and leaving takes one tap. No random chat is risk-free — here's exactly what we do, what we don't, and what you can do.

What we do

Everyone is signed in

There's no guest mode on Meetle. You sign in with Google, Discord or GitHub. That isn't to make you jump through hoops — it's so there's a real account behind every username, not a browser tab someone can just reopen. What you don't have to do is build a profile. No photos, no bio, nothing to fake and nothing to be judged on.

18 or older

You tick "I'm 18 or over" before Start talking turns on. We'll be straight with you: it's a promise you make, not a document check, and we won't pretend otherwise. It's a firm rule all the same, and accounts found to belong to someone under 18 will be removed. If someone seems to be under 18, report them — "They seem to be under 18" is one of the answers.

What strangers see

A username, and that's it

During a conversation the other person sees your username and how long you've been talking. Your email, your sign-in provider and your account are never shown to anyone. There's no way to look you up, search for you, or message you again unless you both chose to keep in touch. There's nothing on Meetle to catfish with, because there's no picture to fake — and your voice and your face stay yours unless you both choose voice or video.

Voice and video

Nobody sees you first

Voice and video never start on their own. You both have to choose them, and either of you can stay in text for the whole conversation.

  • Video starts covered for both of you. All either of you sees is a blur.
  • It only uncovers when you both tap. One tap isn't enough.
  • Either of you can cover it again, instantly.
  • Voice and video aren't recorded.

We can't stop someone recording their own screen, so uncover only when you'd be fine being seen. If anyone pushes you to, you don't owe them anything: leave, or report them.

Leave and report

One tap ends it

Leave is always in the same corner. One tap and the conversation is over — no confirmation, no "are you sure", no reason. They see "riley_m headed off." and nothing else.

Report sits right next to it. It asks what happened, with one-tap answers, and "Just get me out" comes first for when choosing is too much. Either way the conversation ends at once and you're back at the start. On their side it looks exactly like you left; nothing tells them it was a report. There's no search and no profile, so there's no way for them to look you up afterwards.

Nothing saved

When it's over, it's gone

Stranger conversations are never stored. They pass through our server in memory and are gone when the conversation ends — not in a database, not in a log, not for training anything. Voice and video aren't recorded either. That means nobody, not another user and not us, can pull up what you said to a stranger last night. The one exception is on purpose: once you've kept each other, what you send each other in The people you kept is saved, so you can both read it later.

Built in

The boring, invisible stuff

  • No flooding

Messages cap at 1,000 characters and are rate-limited, so nobody can flood your screen.

  • Nobody picks you

Pairing happens on the server. Nobody can choose who they're matched with, or message you unless you both kept each other.

  • Keeping is blind

Nobody finds out you tapped Keep in touch unless they tapped it too. No badge, no list, no notification.

  • No trail back

Nothing on your screen ever ties a stranger to their real account, and nothing on theirs ties back to yours.

  • Games wait for a yes

Nothing starts until the other person taps Play, and either of you can put a game away any time.

  • Leaving is normal

Leave is always one tap away, in the same corner. Nobody is ever told why.

Your part

Six things worth remembering

  1. Keep it in Meetle. Don't move to another app until you'd hand this person your number in real life.
  2. Your username is enough. No last name, school, workplace, address, or the name of your street. People you kept can earn that later, at your pace.
  3. Uncover only when you'd be fine being seen. You can cover again instantly, but nobody can stop someone recording their own screen.
  4. Nobody here needs your money. No gift cards, no crypto, no codes sent to your phone. Anyone who asks is running a scam. Report them.
  5. Trust the weird feeling. Leave costs nothing.
  6. Meeting someone in real life is a big step. Public place, daytime, tell someone.

The long version is in the Terms.

Honestly

Being honest about the gaps

Meetle is new. Right now a report ends the conversation and is recorded — nobody is banned yet, and nobody reads stranger conversations, because they aren't stored. We're a small team, and we'd rather tell you what's live than promise what isn't. Bans for accounts that keep getting reported are on the roadmap; we'll say so on this page when they're live, and we won't promise dates. If something on Meetle worried you and Report wasn't enough, email hello@meetle.org — a person reads it.
